Reiki (pronounced Ray-Kee) is a form of hands-on therapy that is used for stress reduction, relaxation and to promote the natural healing process of the body.
The technique was developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in 1922, and since then has become increasing popular worldwide. The Japanese word Reiki translates to ‘Universal Energy’; many other techniques such as yoga, acupuncture and tai chi all use similar energy to promote recovery and well-being.

Reiki works in conjunction with all types of medical, psychological and other methods of alternative therapies.

How is Reiki treatment given?
Each session is approximately 1 hour long, and is aimed at making you feel calm and relaxed. The session begins with a quick chat about yourself, and your specific needs, and a chance to ask any questions.
You may then sit or lie down in a comfortable position, fully clothed, and music is played to create a relaxing and meditative atmosphere.
The practitioners places his hands on or over the body in a series of hand positions. Each position is held for 3-10 minutes depending on how much Reiki is needed. After the treatment there is a quick chat about how you felt during the treatments and another chance to ask any questions.
What does a Reiki treatment feel like?
The experience differs from person to person, however, most people feel a sense of deep relaxation. Many also feel a great wave of energy and warmth, some feel tingly sensations, whilst others feel that they had fallen asleep, though everyone is fully aware of what was going on around them!
At the end of the treatment you feel relaxed, refreshed and in a positive state of mind.
